Ondo APC Elders To National Leaders: The Crisis In Our Party May Affect Our Chances In November Guber Election

The elders disclosed that if the seeming crisis within the Ondo State APC is not quickly resolved, the chances of the party winning the governorship election would be slim.

The Elders Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has called on its National Leadership to wade into the crisis rocking the party ahead of the November 26 governorship election.

The elders disclosed that if the seeming crisis within the Ondo State APC is not quickly resolved, the chances of the party winning the governorship election would be slim.

The Chairman of the Elders Council, Olorunnimbe Farukanmi, and its Secretary, Bayo Olafusi, made the call in a communiqué obtained by SaharaReporters.

“We are appealing to all leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State that unless capable leaders are made to reorganize the party properly, no matter who we endorse to run for the gubernatorial position, our chances of winning the elections are slim.

“Let us make haste to build our party against the upcoming gubernatorial elections so that we can repeat the Buhari presidential victory in our State gubernatorial elections,” the Council said.

The elders lamented that APC Chairman Isaacs Kekemeke caused disunity among the party members, and within the executive, following his open endorsement of a gubernatorial aspirant in the party.

“The Chairman of the party, Mr. Isaacs Kekemeke, ought to be fair and neutral in relating to all gubernatorial aspirants of the party, but it is unfortunate that he has taken sides with an aspirant,” the statement reads.

The elders described Mr. Kekemeke’s endorsement as an action that disorganized and divided the party.

“One can just imagine how this unilateral and selfish action has thrown the executive and the party as a whole into pandemonium,” the Council said in its statement.

The elders also bemoaned the embattled chairman’s doctoring of the party’s delegates’ list to be used for the primary election.

They stated that the content of the petition written by the members of the State Executive Committee (SEC) was factual to the events unfolding in the opposition party in the State.

According to the Council, Mr. Kekemeke has isolated himself from the leaders of the party and has refused to convene meetings between the Elders Forum and State Executive.

“The Chairman has equally not only refused to have meetings with all members of the Elders Forum but also refused to have any association whatsoever with the members of the Elders Forum since his inauguration as the Chairman of the party.”

They further alleged that the embattled chairman has been holding clandestine meeting with some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State.

The elders also accused Mr. Kekemeke of financial racketeering, using his position and influence as the State chairman of the party.

“The State Chairman has never rendered an account of the financial status of the State despite the fact that hundreds of millions of naira have been paid through that account since he assumed duty as the chairman.

“Hence, about two-thirds of the members of his executive have disowned him as the Chairman. We are therefore in a dilemma taking cognizance of the dictatorial and autocratic tendencies of the Chairman,” the members said.

They maintained that all attempts to get their views to the National Leaders through Mr. Kekemeke has failed, hence their action to issue a public statement on the cogent matter rocking the State chapter of the party.
