The uncompleted building collapsed at around 12:00am on Monday at Jumai Kwanashi Crescent by 44 Avenue in Gwarinpa when some of the workers arrived at the building to commence work.

According to the Director General of the FCT Emergency Management Agency, Abbas Idris, six people have been rescued alive and taken to a general hospital for treatment while two others are still trapped in the rubble.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Red Cross and others are on ground continuing the search for survivors.

We gathered that the ill fated building was built in a flood plain area and converted to hotel.  We also learnt that the owner of the building added another suspended floor to the building after the approval has been given.  As at time of this report, the rescue operation is still ongoing at the scene of the incident.
