The Zonal Head of Operations, Mr. Nnaghe Oboni-Itam, while addressing a press conference on Tuesday at the Commission Zonal office, said the commission had recorded 214 cases out of which it secured 23 convictions, while 24 other cases were still undergoing prosecutions.
The Kano State Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday disclosed that it had recovered over N54.5 billion from fraudsters and politically exposed persons in the State.
The Zonal Head of Operations, Mr. Nnaghe Oboni-Itam, while addressing a press conference on Tuesday at the Commission Zonal office, said the commission had recorded 214 cases out of which it secured 23 convictions, while 24 other cases were still undergoing prosecutions.
He said the EFCC had recovered $622,200, eight houses, nine plots of land, three trucks and a car in the period under review.
“The zone was directed by the Chairman in June to look into a complaint about diversion and fraudulent schemes involving the distribution of petroleum products during the last crisis in the country.
“Our investigation into the cyclical, bridging and retail schemes yielded a refund of over N54.3 billion to the government by credit marketers who collected products and sold them but refused to remit the monies,” he said.
Mr. Oboni-Itam also disclosed that the commission in the zone had recovered several millions of naira for the Federal Inland Revenue Service, pointing out that they are partnering with the agency to ensure value is derived by the government through the appropriate collection of taxes, rates, and royalties.
