The Lagos State prosecuting counsel, Attorney General of Lagos State, and Commissioner of Justice, Adeniji Kazeem, stated that the defendants and others who are still at large conspired to commit the alleged offenses on July 16, 2016. The offense was committed in Iba town at the traditional ruler's palace. In the process of committing the crime, the defendants allegedly murdered two people, one of whom was ‎a security guard, Sunday Eniola Okanlawon, and a commercial motorcycle rider, Joseph Okeke.

"With intent to commit felony, the defendants conspired ‎with others at large to kidnap Oba Yishau Goriola Oseni at the Oba's Palace in Iba town, Lagos," the prosecutor said.

Mr. Kazeem also alleged that the defendants attempted to murder the monarch’s wife, Olori Abosede Oseni, and robbed her of her mobile phone.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the offenses leveled against them. Consequently, the Attorney General argued that the defendants should be remanded in prison custody and asked for a trial date. Presiding judge Oluwatoyin ‎Taiwo adjourned the trial till November 4, 2016.
