End Of The Road For Mimiko's Candidate As Court Of Appeal Aborts Ondo PDP Guber Judgement

A panel of the Court of Appeal today aborted its planned judgment that would have restored Eyitayo Jegede as the official candidate of the People's Democratic in the upcoming Ondo state governorship election.

Justice Ibrahim Salauwa, who led the three-judge panel, arrived in court and stated that a judgment slated for today could no longer be given because the Supreme Court had transmitted to the Court of Appeal that an appeal was pending before it.

SaharaReporters learned that it was a face-saving measure by the court as a series of tweets by this website had revealed a plan to deliver a judgment that would favor Governor Segun Mimiko of Ondo State who allegedly bribed judges in the case.

The Supreme Court had on Tuesday transmitted a notice of appeal to the Court of Appeal, but the Court of Appeal ignored the notice and went on to rush a hearing on Wednesday. The justices also adopted the briefs presented by a lawyer representing Mr. Jegede during a tense hearing.

Today's aborted judgment spelled gloom in Akure on Friday where thousands of PDP members issued with party hats were waiting to celebrate a judgment that would have decided for Mr. Jegede as the party's governorship candidate.
