APC Rejects Calls For Postponement Of Ondo Guber Election

November 20, 2016

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the call by a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to shift the governorship election in the state to a later date. The PDP had based its call on the raging crisis within its ranks.

In a statement signed by Mr. Mai Mala Buni, APC National Secretary, the party said the crisis within the PDP and the aftermath of its primaries are self-inflicted problems for which it should not hold the rest of the state down.

"Instead of making the ridiculous election postponement request on INEC, the PDP should focus and redirect its energy towards putting its house in order," said the statement.                          It described PDP's call for postponement as an extension of its wild conspiracies on the Ondo State governorship election. The statement recalled that the PDP had accused the APC of colluding with the judiciary, INEC and security agencies to manipulate the result of the  election.

"The APC is not party to any scheme to subvert justice and undermine the very progressive and participatory democracy, which the APC fiercely stands for.

"The APC calls on INEC to ignore PDP’s bizarre request and concentrate on delivering a free, fair, credible and transparent ballot on election day," the party said.

It described the Ondo electorate as a clear-headed one that will elect the candidate with a proven performance record,  adding that the election of its candidate, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, will bring about massive development that has eluded the state.
