Dear Nigeria,
I am Nigerian. I love this great country with diverse cultures and customs. What make us resilient people are our brilliance, compassion and love of country despite our ethnic and tribal differences. We are a people blessed by God, yet cursed by our human greed and leadership.
My name is Olu Faloye (aka Humble Prince).
It's a shame what our country has become in these times. My friends here in the US tell me Nigerians are too smart for the country to be in a shambles while we, the citizens are complacent. For so long we have accepted the failures of our leaders as our destinies. But I blame our leaders for denial, through the years, of our basic necessities of life and liberty. I also blame ourselves for succumbing to fear and lack of desire to sacrifice for change.. Yes the blame starts from the top. I campaigned passionately for the current administration. I still believe Buhari can turn things around with two years left. In the event that he doesn't, democracy will have to take its course again in 2019.
I dreamed of being President of my beloved country Nigeria. The future is here. I am hoping to declare my candidacy for the President of Nigeria in 2019. I am still exploring that possibility. However, these are few of the policies that I'll initiate as a Presidential candidate and perhaps President, to turn the country around:
1. Stop "Security Votes" to Governors. I will fight against it with all my executive powers because it is a huge avenue for them to steal billions of Naira.
2. I will advocate the principle of Federal Character. Every competent and highly qualified tribe in the country will be appointed and well represented in my cabinet. I will not favor a particular tribe to the detriment of others.
3. I will ensure the speedy passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (which has not been passed for over 12 years). This will enable the Oil sectors to generate Billions of dollars yearly in revenue and lead to job creation.
4. INVEST IN NIGERIA: I will invest massively in our educational sector to at least meet, if not, surpass global standards. I will also bring back Post Jamb which will be the final yardstick for students to seek admission in any university. I will make sure that 1st class graduates get automatic employment in my Government and other areas of the economy. This will actually be a very high priority as education is the key to success for any country
5. I will ensure that Constituent projects that members of the National Assembly always use to siphon Billions of Naira every time they pass a budget are stopped effective immediately.
6. I will make sure that foreign investors do not pay tax when they invest in my country. This will attract investors globally and will be a huge boost to the Nigerian economy
7. I will make sure that the power situation is fixed. Other top priorities in this sector would include, infrastructure, even if it means calling on international investors to help us out in that area. The instability of these two components is disrupting the huge potential Nigeria has to offer its citizens.
8. I will work with the National Assembly to abolish Child marriage.
9. I will immediately repeal the draconian Anti Gay Laws that imprisons homosexuals and lesbians for up to 14yrs. Human Rights Violation aside, this law impedes support, funding for defense and military assistance from the United States due to Leahy's Law.* And let's face it, funding for defense is something the country needs to protect itself, especially from home grown terrorists.
*The Leahy Law or Leahy amendment is a U.S. human rights law that prohibits the U.S. Department of State and Department of Defense from providing military assistance to foreign military units that violate human rights with impunity. It is named after its principal sponsor, Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont.(Source Wikipedia).
