Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia Arraigned In Court

November 28, 2016

According to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Obla bribed Ms. Ajumogobia with N5m while she was presiding over one of Mr. Obla's cases.

Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia and Godwin Obla, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, were arraigned before a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja on Monday.

Justice T. Oshodi presided over the case. The duo is facing a 30-count charge of bribery.

According to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Obla bribed Ms. Ajumogobia with N5m while she was presiding over one of Mr. Obla's cases. This alleged bribery accounts for 5 of the 30 charges the two are facing. The remaining charges concern large sums of money belonging to Ms. Ajumogobia, the source of which she cannot explain.

Channels TV reported that the defendants pleaded not guilty to all charges and applied for bail. But the EFCC argued that the defendants attempted to interfere with their investigation and therefore urged the court to reject their bail application.

At the time of publication, Justice Oshodi has yet to rule on the bail application.

Ms. Ajumogobia was one of the several justices arrested on allegations of corruption in October.
