Armed Robbers Kill A Policeman, Wounded Another During Robbery In Rivers

Armed bandits Monday robbed a customer of N30 million at  Guaranty Trust Bank located at Rumuibekwe area on Port Harcourt, Rivers state and also killed a policeman during their operation.

An Eyewitness said the robbers numbering about six, stormed the bank in a saloon car, shooting sporadically to scare away policemen.

The Rivers State Police Command spokesman, Nnamdi Omoni issued a short statement stating, "Today 30/1/2017 at about 1000hrs at Rumuibekwe Extension, Port Harcourt armed robbers numbering about 6 attacked policemen on foot patrol from Miniokoro Police Station, on citing the police, opened fire on them, the police immediately retaliated but sadly lost a Sergeant during the exchange of gun fire and another Sergeant was injured, he is now responding to treatment" he said

"The armed robbers were to attack a New Generation Bank but were repelled by the gallant efforts of the officers.  The robbers did not gain access to the bank. No money was taken, and no customer was killed."

He further stated that intensive search for the robbers has commenced and that the Command’s Tactical Units have taken over the entire area, combing all the nooks and cranny with a view to arresting the hoodlums.
