Ile-Ife Killings: El-Rufai Warns Against Appeals For Revenge in Kaduna

Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai has warned persons peddling videos and images of the killings in Ile-Ife and calling for revenge, in Kaduna State.

His spokesperson, Samuel Aruwan, said in a statement on Monday in Kaduna that the governor stressed that anyone found appealing for revenge will be arrested and prosecuted.

The warnings are contained in a statement issued on behalf of the Kaduna State Security Council, which commended the vast majority of the residents for their commitment to peace and urged them to continue to resist and reject any attempt to disrupt the peace and tranquility currently prevailing in the state.

Warning against the incitement of unnecessary tensions in the state because of events elsewhere in the country, it urged those responsible for it to desist from circulating videos and images with inciting commentary and calls to citizens for reprisals.

“Already, the unfortunate incidents in that part of the country have been contained and taken care of, so the government would not watch enemies of peace capitalizing on the situation to cause problems in Kaduna State using images and videos calling for reprisals,” the Council said.

“People circulating images and calling for reprisals are enemies of peaceful society, and all citizens must say no to them. The Security Council is determined to ensure that anyone or group of persons distributing images and videos calling for revenge are arrested and prosecuted.

“Citizens must support the government to ensure that every threat to law and order in the state is defeated.”
