Preliminary investigation at the scene revealed that the doctor, while being driven across the Third Mainland Bridge, suddenly ordered his driver to pull over and proceeded to leave the vehicle and jump off the bridge.

A medical doctor named Orji jumped into the Lagos Lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge on Sunday evening.

Officers from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and Lagos State Traffic Management (LASTMA), together with the officer in charge of the Nigeria Police Force’s marine unit, attempted to rescue the doctor, deploying police boats and drones in the search and rescue exercise.

Preliminary investigation at the scene revealed that the doctor, while being driven across the Third Mainland Bridge, suddenly ordered his driver to pull over and proceeded to leave the vehicle and jump off the bridge.

The vehicle, a Nissan Xterra SUV, and the driver have been taken to Adeniji Adele Police Station for further investigation, while an effort is ongoing to recover the doctor’s body from the lagoon.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Agency (LASEMA), Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu, said that the appropriate authorities would conduct a proper investigation into the incident.

Lagos State Police Commissioner Fatai Owoseni revealed that the police force has visited the doctor’s mother in her Lekki house, adding that church members and concerned citizens have visited the family to console them at this trying period.
