Ogbia Brotherhood Mourns Jonathan's Former Chief Security Officer, Says He Was Persecuted By FG

Ogbia Brotherhood, a worldwide socio-cultural group of Ogbia people of Bayelsa State, has described the death of Mr. Gordon Obua, Chief Security Officer (CSO) to former President Goodluck Jonathan as shocking.

Ogbia Brotherhood, a worldwide socio-cultural group of Ogbia people of Bayelsa State, has described the death of Mr. Gordon Obua, Chief Security Officer (CSO) to former President Goodluck Jonathan as shocking.

The late Obua, an indigene of Ogbia Local Government Area, died of heart attack on Thursday at the National Hospital, Abuja.

Mr. Benson Agadaga, President of Ogbia Brotherhood, said on Friday that Mr. Obua's death has left the whole of Ogbia Kingdom in deep grief.

The group's President explained that he personally feels the grief more profoundly because the deceased was much younger than him.

"Even though I cannot say exactly how old he was, he was several years younger than me.  In our culture, the death of a younger person is usually very painful. The CSO was about  three years behind me and former President Jonathan in secondary school. So, his death, to us, is shocking and sad. We had hoped that we could leverage on his wealth of experience to develop Ogbia Kingdom," Mr. Agadaga said.

The Ogbia Brotherhood President expressed disappointment at how the late CSO was treated by the current Federal Government, which he claimed unnecessarily detained him for alleged corruption.

"He took ill and nearly died in detention and when he was released, he was recovering and we thought he would overcome the challenge only to hear of his death. We are downcast by this but we cannot question God. May his soul rest in peace," Mr. Agadaga said.

Mr. Fred Obua, a family member to the late CSO, declined to speak on the death, saying he was in transit.

"I am on my way to Abuja as we speak. It is in connection with Gordon's demise. Maybe we can talk later," he said.
