Gunmen Abduct Local Monarch In Ondo State

The monarch was abducted on Saturday by unknown gunmen on Ikare/Owo Road, a source disclosed to our correspondent.

Oba Joel Daodu, the Oniyani of Iyani Akoko in Akoko North West Local Government Area of Ondo State, has been kidnapped.

The source, who spoke with SaharaReporters in a phone chat, disclosed that the monarch was taken away by the kidnappers through a bush.

This same source explained that the family of the monarch has been contacted by the kidnappers for ransom.

He added that the kidnappers are currently demanding N15 million in exchange for the traditional ruler’s freedom.

“The monarch was kidnapped along that same Oba Akoko road which has been a major spot for kidnapping in the area,” the source said.

Femi Joseph, the spokesman of the Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, confirmed the abduction, adding that the police have begun their search for Oba Joel Daudu.

"We are on the trail of the abductors and our search team is combing everywhere in order to rescue the monarch,” he said.
