How Gov. Dickson Lied About Dialysis Center In Yenagoa

Bayelsa State Governor Henry Seriake Dickson, in an evident bid to exaggerate his achievements, lied to the people of the state when he said that his administration was the first to make dialysis available in the state through the center it just established.

The extravagant claim was made in statement signed by Daniel Iworiso-Markson, Mr. Dickson’s Chief Press Secretary.

"This is the first time we are having dialysis facilities in the state‎ and we are glad that our partners, a team of experts from the US are here to oversee these facilities. So, with what you are seeing, the diagnostic center and the referral hospitals in the eight local government areas, you will agree with me that Bayelsa is set for quality health-care delivery," gushed the governor’s spokesman.

Fact checks by SaharaReporters, however, showed that the claim is worthless guff. The Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, SaharaReporters discovered, has a well-equipped dialysis unit. Some private hospitals in the state also have the machines, which are manned by Nigerians. The one established by the Dickson administration, situated in the Bayelsa State Government House, is manned by two experts from the United States.

These facts, however, have been ignored by the government, which continues to drool over itself.
