16 Killed, 13 Injured As Female Suicide Bombers Again Hit University of Maiduguri

A series of suicide bomb attacks, on Sunday night and Monday morning, killed 16 persons and injured 13 others in different locations in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. The casualty figures were revealed by Mr. Damian Chukwu, Borno State Commissioner of Police. The attacks were carried out by female bombers.

"We recorded the death of 16 persons, including the suicide bombers, and injuries to 13," said Mr. Chukuwu.

At 10 pm last night, explained the Police Commissioner, one of the bombers blew herself up at the University of Maiduguri security post.

An hour and a half later, he added, multiple explosions were recorded at Zanari, Jere Local Government Area on the outskirts of Maiduguri, when two bombers detonated explosives in a residential building, killing eight persons and injuring 11.

Another female bomber was captured alive but died overnight of injuries sustained from the explosives of her co-bombers. Mr. Chukwu also disclosed that at about 8 am on Monday, two female bombers blew themselves up on the University of Maiduguri campus.
