Female Suicide Bombers Kill 8, Injure 18 In Maiduguri

Police Explosive Ordinance Department officials were deployed to the scene to render it safe for normal activities to continue.

A female suicide bomber, on Monday killed eight persons and injured 18 others during an attempt to enter a mosque in London Ciki area in Jere Local Government Area on the outskirts of Maiduguri, Borno State. This was disclosed at a press briefing by Mr. Damian Chukwu, Borno State Police Commissioner. Mr. Chukwu also disclosed that the bomber detonated the explosive device on her body, killing herself.

The corpses and the injured persons were evacuated to University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

Earlier, troops of the Nigerian Army deployed between Cimari Community and No Man's Land on the outskirts of Maiduguri township, had intercepted a female suicide bomber trying to infiltrate the community through a parapet ahead at about 1:50 p.m.

In her attempt to escape, the suicide bomber was shot by the troops, leading to an explosion of her suicide vest and death. 

On Sunday, two teenage female suicide bombers were prevented from sneaking into Mammanti village around Molai General Area in Konduga Local Government Area to cause havoc.

According to Mr. Chukwu, the two suicide bombers made to sneak into Mammanti through the parapet at the village at about midnight. 

The bombers, he added, were engaged by the troops after being challenged. This resulted in the detonation of their suicide vests, killing only the two suicide bombers.
