My Wife Locked Me Out Of Our House, Stole My Car, Man Tells Court

September 7, 2017

Mr. Daniel told the court that in 2014, his wife took his car key and chased him out of the house. She then locked the door and refused to let him back in, forcing him to rent out an apartment.

Ezekiel Daniel, a 55-year-old civil servant, is seeking a divorce from his wife, Janet, after she allegedly locked him out of their house and stole his car.

Mr. Daniel disclosed this to a Mararaba Grade 1 Area Court in Aso Pada, Nasarawa State, on Thursday, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He married Mrs. Daniel in 2005, he said, and the couple have two children.

Mr. Daniel told the court that in 2014, his wife took his car key and chased him out of the house. She then locked the door and refused to let him back in, forcing him to rent out an apartment.

“For three years now, I have been living in a rented apartment and boarding a commercial vehicle to go to work since then,” he said.

The petitioner lamented that his wife is abusive and has anger management issues.

“My wife is uncontrollable when she is angry; she is abusive, disrespectful and nags over things that are not worth making issues from,” Mr. Daniel said. “My wife quarrels and fights with our neighbors over little things, thereby bringing shame and disrespect to me.”

He therefore urged the court to dissolve his marriage.

His 45-year-old wife, however, denied the allegations, saying that Mr. Daniel was simply trying to tarnish her image. She said she still loves her husband and does not want the marriage terminated.

Justice Albert Maga adjourned the matter till September 21.
