One Dead, Others Injured In Ondo Road Accident As Osinbajo Pays Visit For Niger Delta Meeting

Our correspondent gathered that some of the victims were delegates traveling to Igbokoda to attend the Second National Council of the Niger Delta Conference, which will be attended by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

At least one person was killed and many others were injured in a car accident on Okitipupa Road in Ode Aye, Okitipupa Local Government Area, Ondo State on Tuesday, SaharaReporters has learned.

Our correspondent gathered that some of the victims were delegates traveling to Igbokoda to attend the Second National Council of the Niger Delta Conference, which will be attended by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

The vice president, who was not involved in the accident, will speak alongside Governor Rotimi Akeredolu at an interactive session of the conference, entitled “Fast Tracking the Development and Peace of the Niger Delta Region: Options and Prospects.”

An eyewitness who confirmed the accident to SaharaReporters disclosed that it occurred at the Agric Junction on Okitipupa Road.

The witness said the accident involved no fewer than three passenger vehicles traveling for the interactive session of the conference.

“It is a serious accident and I saw many of them with tags bearing something like Niger Delta Conference,” the witness said.

Femi Joseph, spokesman of the Ondo State Police Command, also confirmed the accident in a short phone interview.

Mr. Joseph said the accident involved about three vehicles conveying some persons to Igbokoda for the Niger Delta meeting.

“Our men at the scene have confirmed one person dead with so many others critically injured in the accident,” he said, adding that he did not yet know all the details of the accident.

The Ondo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) also confirmed the accident.

Adekemi Anthonia, the public education officer of the command, confirmed this in a text message sent to SaharaReporters.

"Rescue is ongoing there and our Ore unit command is already on the top of the situation. We will get back to you later,” she said.

SaharaReporters gathered that those injured in the accident have been taken to the state specialist hospital in Okitipupa.
