Pirates Kill 2 In Bayelsa State

September 25, 2017

The victims were a young man and a middle-aged woman.

Suspected pirates killed two passengers on a boat along the Nembe-Brass waterways in Bayelsa State on Monday.

The chairman of the Bayelsa State chapter of the Nigeria Maritime Workers Union, Lloyd Sese, confirmed the development to SaharaReporters, adding that five persons were injured in the attack.

Community sources said that about four gunmen opened fire on a passenger boat at Okoroma Axis and ransacked the boat for valuables. The victims were a young man and a middle-aged woman.

Our correspondent gathered that the boat was traveling from Yenagoa to Okpoama in Brass Local Government Area.

When our correspondent contacted Asinim Butswat, spokesperson for the Bayelsa State Police Command, he said he had not yet heard of the incident.

“You know, with the nature of the terrain and the distance so far, we are yet to be notified,” he said.

The attack is the third of its kind to occur in the state in three weeks. Three weeks ago, an ambush on a military houseboat left two dead in Southern Ijaw, and on Friday, militants attacked a tugboat in the same area, killing three crew members.
