Nigeria Police Summons Senator Omisore Over Assault On Late Senator Adeleke

The Police in Osun State have invited Mr. Iyiola Omisore, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  governorship aspirant‎ in the state, to respond to allegations of physical assault brought against him by the recently deceased  Mr. Isiaka Adeleke, a senator and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The invitation was made via a letter dated 20 October. Signed by Mr. Umege Uzochukwu, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation  Department, the letter requested Mr. Omisore to meet with the DCP on 27 October.

The physical attack allegedly took place in April 2014 and was reported to the Police by Mr. Adeleke the same year, while he was a member of the PDP and a rival to Mr. Omisore for the party's governorship ticket.

Mr. Adeleke had claimed that the alleged attack took place during a PDP stakeholders' meeting at Ideal Nest Hotel, Oshogbo, capital of Osun State. The deceased senator had claimed that he was set upon by Messrs. Omisore, Jelili Adesiyan, then Minister for Police Affairs; and one Mr. Sogo Agboola, a PDP stalwart.

Mr. Adeleke later defected to the APC, where he won a senatorial seat, which he occupied until his controversial death earlier this year. SaharaReporters could, however, not ascertain whether Mr. Omisore honoured the invitation.
