Before the recent release, AIB had earlier released five crashes reports in the first quarter of the year, bringing to eight the total number of reports released by the agency in 2017.
With the planned release of additional four tomorrow, Wednesday, the agency would have released 12 air crashes within the year.
A source close to the Ministry of Transport, Aviation Unit, told our correspondent today that one of the crashes ready for release is that of the trainee aircraft from the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, but did not furnish our correspondent the details of the report.
According to the ministry source, the yet to be released reports had gone through the requirements set out by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), especially Annex 13, which is on accident investigation.
The source said that among the requirements was sending out the reports to stakeholders for review before releasing them to the public.
The report, it was further gathered was sent to the Presidency, Ministry of Transport and manufacturers of the concerned airplanes as required by the law.
The source hinted that the bureau had given stakeholders and other concerned bodies the maximum 60 days as required to review the reports, make inputs and return them to the agency before going public with them.
It would be recalled that AIB had in August, about three months ago, released to the public the ill-fated helicopter crash involving late Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr, John Haruna and three others, which occurred in Plateau State.
Apart from this, the investigation agency also released the serious incident involving a Tampico TB 9 aircraft belonging to NCAT and the ground collision incident involving Air Peace Airlines at the apron of the General Aviation Terminal of Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos on 20th April 2017.
Earlier in the year, in March to be precise, AIB had also released the report of Dana Air crash of June 3, 2012, at the Iju Ishaga Area of Lagos and four others.
No fewer than 163 souls both on the ground and in the air perished in the accident.
Engr. Akin Olateru, the Commissioner of AIB, had promised immediately on assumption of office in January to release at least 10 accidents reports out of 37 pending in the shelf of the bureau before the end of 2017.
The source said: “The Commissioner had brought the report to the ministry and even the presidency for verification. I can tell you that the report would be in public domain by tomorrow (Wednesday). Just like in the past, every naughty area of the reports have been looked into and I can assure you that there won’t be any controversy after the release.”
