#EndSARS: Woman Narrates How Husband Was Arrested By SARS Officers

Mrs. Adekoya said she has not been able to see her husband since he was arbitrarily arrested by SARS and taken to the Lagos State Police Command where he has been detained since Tuesday.

Abosede Adekoya, wife of the Personal Assistant (PA) to the former Executive Chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, has called out for public intervention over the arrest of her husband, Olusegun Adekoya, who was picked up by officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) on Tuesday at about 3:22 p.m. in Festac Town, Lagos State.

Mrs. Adekoya said she has not been able to see her husband since he was arbitrarily arrested by SARS and taken to the Lagos State Police Command where he has been detained since Tuesday.

“I got a call that my husband was arrested by SARS in Festac. They have not told us what he did or why he was arrested,” Mrs. Adekoya told SaharaReporters. “I have not been able to see my husband since they took him. His brother who went to the station said they were not allowed to see him.”

Narrating the ordeal, she said her husband received a call from a friend who told him to meet him in Festac, where he was eventually arrested along with his friend and a roadside mechanic who had gone with him.

“My husband was at his mechanic workshop to repair his car when he received a call from one of his friends. He then asks the mechanic to go with him since he is also a friend but on getting to Festac, the SARS arrested my husband, his friend who called him, and the mechanic.

“The mechanic was released upon his insistence that he only accompanied my husband. They gave him a test to be sure he is a mechanic and then released him. The other fried that was arrested with my husband w as released the same day, but my husband has been in the police custody since Tuesday,” she said.

Mr. Adekoya’s employer, Ayodele Adewale, and other family members said they have not been permitted to see him, nor have they been told what offense he committed that warranted his arrest.

According to the former Amuwo Odofin chairman, all efforts to release Mr. Adekoya from police custody has been futile. He said no relative, including his lawyer, have been allowed to see or communicate with Mr. Adekoya, adding that the younger brother of the victim witnessed him being slapped and moved to another department.

Mr. Adewale said he does not know what offense Mr. Adekoya could have committed that made SARS arrest him.

However, the ex-chair alleged that the arrest of his personal assistant must have been instigated by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dan Okoro of the Special Fraud Unit (SFU), who was the former Area E commander of the Nigeria Police in Festac Town.

A journalist with Nigeria Info FM, Joseph Folorunsho, who claimed to have reached out to follow up on the matter with the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), stated that the PRO said he had no information on the arrest.

Similarly, attempts by SaharaReporters to reach the police command for comment on the incident were futile, as calls went unanswered.
