Lagos Polytechnic Holds 26th Convocation Amidst Security Fears

The Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), Ikorodu,  on Thursday organized its 26th convocation ceremony, graduating 6,355 students amidst fears of cultist attack.

The palpable fear over impending attack was evident with large numbers of security personnel deployed to the campus.

There have been fears of impending revenge attack in the institution following the killing of a member of cult gang during a foiled attack on the Polytechnic some weeks ago.

However, the convocation was held without any serious incident.

Out of the 6,355 graduating students, 211 earned distinctions, 1,368 made Upper Credit, 3,505 students made lower credit and 1,271 obtained Pass.

Omotoyosi Fatogun, who finished from the Department of Science Laboratory Technology with Cumulative Grade Point Aggregate ( CGPA ) of 3.81, was announced as the overall best graduating students of the Polytechnic.

Congratulating the students, the Rector of the school, Samuel Sogunro, urged the students to strive and bring into reality what they have learnt in the institution by becoming job creators rather than seeking for the not readily available white-collar jobs.

He urged the graduating students to think of how to improve the economic situation of the country by playing their part in bringing down the level of hopelessness that exists among the youths.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos who was represented by his deputy, Idiat Adebule, also urged the new graduates to take advantage of the training and skills they have acquired to become employers of labor.

She added that the economic climate of the nation requires young vibrant entrepreneurs who are determined to create wealth and employment opportunities.
