Kwankwaso Denies Having Secret Meeting With Obasanjo

Mr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, the senator representing Kano central was not part of a secret meeting allegedly convened by former President Olusegun Obasanjo on 2019 general elections

Mr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, the senator representing Kano central was not part of a secret  meeting allegedly convened by former President Olusegun Obasanjo on 2019 general elections, contrary to reports in some newspapers over the weekend, associates of the lawmaker have said.

A senior Advocate of Nigeria and co-chair of Nigeria Intervention Movement (NIM), Mr. Olisa Agbakoba, had  said Kwankwaso and some politicians were present at the meeting with Obasanjo held at Protea Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

Daily Post had quoted Mr. Agbakoba as sayng: “I can confirm that Kwankwaso was there and Oyinlola was there, but for us, our concern is that Nigerians need to see a new political plan and we told them in clear terms that if we are to work together, it would present a challenge if the Nigerian voting population see the same old people and then there would be no change. So, that’s where we are”.

But Hajiya Binta Rabi’u Spikin, said there was no such meeting between Mr. Kwankaso and the former president.

“Senator Kwankwaso never met with Obasanjo in Lagos state as speculated. Senator Kwankwaso was in Kaduna having series of meetings with various stakeholders of Kwankwasiyya-led faction of the APC. The story that went viral on social media was false, unfounded and uncalled-for.

“People are clamouring for the ‘real change’ hence they were eager to know where the national leader of Kwankwasiyya, Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso focuses his political attention, so they could follow him.”

Another member of Kwankwasiyya group, the poltical movement of Kwankwaso, Ahaji Umar Haruna Doguwa, also said even if such meeting had held, it would not be political.

He said; “Although I am not aware of any meeting between Obj and Kwankwaso, but in my opinion such a meeting if at all they met should not be seen as political.

“This is because the former president is now an elder statesman and has been meeting with various people including President Muhammadu Buhari.”
