Peter Azi, Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, has been impeached.

In his stead, the lawmakers elected Joshua Madaki, representative of Jos East constituency, to direct the affairs of the body.

Azi was impeached after a motion of vote of no confidence was moved by Peter Gyendeng, the lawmaker representing Barkin Ladi constituency.

Other lawmakers at the plenary unanimously passed the motion through a voice vote, leading to the removal of the former speaker.

Also impeached was Henry Yunkwap, Majority Leader of the Assembly; he was replaced with Nanlong Daniel, the lawmaker representing Mikang constituency.
