Chief Asam Asam, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a former Nigerian Ambassador to the Russian Federation, has declared that the defection of the former Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, to the All Progressives Congress, would not constitute a loss to the PDP.

Speaking on the Sunrise Daily programme of Channels Television on Thursday, Asam, who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), also confirmed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) indeed blocked the accounts of the Akwa Ibom State Government.

Responding to the question relating to Akpabio’s defection on whether the PDP will cut its losses and move on, he said: “We have no losses to cut. We have members who have moved from one group to us and one person has moved to the other group.”

On the account of the Akwa Ibom State Government being frozen, which, according to media reports, the EFCC had denied knowledge of, he stated: “That would be fantastic if they have unblocked it. It was [blocked]. I have said so. The EFCC can say anything they like.”
