'Something Positive Will Happen' — PDP Hopeful Gov Bindow Will Dump APC 'Soon'

This was confirmed by Abdullahi Adamu Prambe, Secretary of Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who told Sahara Reporters thus: "As I'm talking to you right now, we are reaching out to the Governor and from the way we are seeing it, something positive will happen."

Despite his repeated denials,  SaharaReporters can authoritatively report that plans have reached advanced stage for Jibirilla Bindow, Governor of Adamawa State, to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This was confirmed by Abdullahi Adamu Prambe, Secretary of Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who told Sahara Reporters thus: "As I'm talking to you right now, we are reaching out to the Governor and from the way we are seeing it, something positive will happen.

"If you look at what happened last week, we went to the former Acting Governor James Barka's residence, we told him, come back to your former house and he agreed that based on his analysis, PDP is the only party that has what it takes to sustain Nigeria.

"Therefore, we have that confidence that the state Governor will return to the PDP because we keep telling him if he wants to actualise himself, PDP is the answer."

When asked to be categorical about the Governor's long-awaited defection, Prambe responded: "Well, we're still consulting and from the all indications I have confidence that something positive will happen."

Corroborating Prambe's claims, a source from Atiku Abubakar's inner caucus said "Atiku has vowed to reclaim the state for the PDP, and the Governor understands the language quite clearly."

In the same vein, members of the APC splinter group loyal to former SGF Babachir Lawal have persistently accused Bindow of divided loyalty. They cited how the Governor has continued to retain several Atiku loyalists in is government, including his daughter, Dr. Fatima Atiku Abubakar, who is the Commissioner of Health.

Checks by SaharaReporters revealed that Bindow's planned exit from the ruling APC may not be unconnected to a myriad of challenges confronting him, one of which is the combined forces by formidable power blocks who have vowed to oust him at nomination level.

A source very close to Bindow revealed to Sahara Reporters that his principal views Adams Oshiomhole's insistence on direct primaries as an afront on his second term ambition.

"When Oshiomhole announced that the party was adopting direct primaries in the Osun governorship nomination, we knew who the real targets were," he said.

"We are aware also of a plan by a cabal within the presidency who are championing the Cause of Modi (Aisha Buhari's brother). Their plan is to insist on the conduct of direct primaries as introduced by Oshiomhole, because they want to leverage on it to give the governorship ticket to either Modi or Ribadu."

This is reasonable and understandable to the extent of how Bindow maneuvered and amassed all delegates during the last congress in the state.

The source further revealed that their predicament was aggravated by the return of Bindow's political godfather, Atiku, to the PDP.

According to the source, "Atiku's departure has actually orphaned my principal politically, at least within the APC context".

Political pundits have loquaciously predicted Bindow's inability to survive in the troubled waters of APC, as such posited that he must align with Atiku's PDP for survival beyond 2019.

What remains to be seen, however, is how the ongoing negotiations will play out to the Governor's advantage in PDP, seeing Tahir Shehu, the PDP Chairman in Adamawa state, has sworn never to hand over the party structure to anyone but to conduct a credible primary for all aspirants.
