Gunmen Kill Plateau Speaker’s Driver, JUTH Security Guard

Azi Magaji, the Plateau House of Assembly Speaker’s head driver, and Edward Ankpa, a security officer with Jos University Teaching Hospital have been murdered by yet-to-be-identified gunmen.

DSP Terna Tyopev, Plateau Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Jos, on Sunday.

According to the PPRO, the duo were killed on Saturday night in Zarazong Community of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

He said: “Last night, at about 9 p.m., we received a distress call that there were gunshots at Zarazong area of Jos, a community that houses Jos University Teaching Hospital. Immediately, the Police mobilised to the area.

“On arrival, Mr Azi Magaji, the driver to the Speaker and Edward Ankpa, a security guard with JUTH were found dead.

“They were immediately rushed to JUTH. They were confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.”

Tyopev said Kopdi Monday and Nenman Popdak, the security men on duty at JUTH Gate 4, were also found with gunshot wounds and were rushed to the same hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.

He urged residents to be calm and law abiding, noting that the Police would investigate the incident and get to the root of the matter.
