On his part, Ekiyor Welson, the Executive Director of CDDB, commended the REC, management and staff for keeping the commission afloat in spite of the challenges facing its Bayelsa State office especially with past violence experienced during elections.
Cyril Omeregbe, the Bayelsa State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday, said electoral violence is caused by politicians who want to win election at all costs.
Omeregbe made this known in Yenagoa, in a meeting with a state-based socio-political group, Campaign for Development and Democracy in Bayelsa (CDDB.
He also promised to collaborate with the group and other relevance organisations towards achieving credible elections in the state.
Omeregbe commended CDDB for its lofty ideals and described them as very important in the attainment of development and democracy in any society, bearing in mind that participatory democracy is the hallmark of development and the people deserve the dividends of democracy.

Welson called on the commission to involve non-governmental organisations and civil society organisations in the task of organising elections and educating voters in the state, noting that collaboration with such organisations would contribute to ensuring electoral success.
