Nigeria Needs True Democrats, Says Bafarawa

“I am a true democrat. There is a difference between somebody who is an army general, somebody who was trained to kill and defend himself than a true democrat. The most important thing the country needs now is a good economy, security and education," he stated.

Attahiru Bafarawa, a presidential aspirant contesting on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has stated that Nigeria needs true democrats interested in ensuring a stable economy for the country.

The former Governor of Sokoto State, who spoke during a visit to Port Harcourt on Thursday, also stated that what Nigeria needs to advance are security, education and economic reform.

He said: “I am a true democrat. There is a difference between somebody who is an army general, somebody who was trained to kill and defend himself than a true democrat.

“The most important thing the country needs now is a good economy, security and education. These are the key areas we want to delve into when given the opportunity. We want to see how we can take this country out of the mess we have found ourselves,” he expressed.

Bafarawa also sought the support of PDP delegates to become the flag-bearer of the party, when the party organises its primaries.

His words: “I am in Port Harcourt to seek the support of PDP delegates in the forthcoming presidential primaries. I am also here to seek the advice of PDP delegates as it concerns the presidential primaries.”

He further urged the party delegates to be cautious of other presidential aspirants who may want to buy their support with favours.

The former governor was recently accused by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for money laundering and funds misappropriation up to the tune of N13 billion, but was discharged by a High Court in Sokoto State.
