Police Recover Arms, Ammunition In Enugu​

The arms recovered include 10 AK-47 rifles; 33 pump action guns; 56 locally-made pistols (single barrel) and 36 locally-made pistols (double single).

The Enugu State Police Command recovered 165 arms and 160 ammunition from robbers n the first half of 2018, it was learnt yesterday.

Commissioner of Police Mohammed Danmallam, in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said 231 cartridges were recovered and 1,874 persons arrested.

Danmallam added that 1,008 cases were reported to the command.

The arms recovered include 10 AK-47 rifles; 33 pump action guns; 56 locally-made pistols (single barrel) and 36 locally-made pistols (double single).

He added: “We also recovered 12 locally-made cut to size shot guns; three locally-made revolver short guns; 11 Berretta pistols and 17 single barrel long guns under the period under review.

“Among the 1,874 persons arrested, 1,680 persons were charged to court and 356 of them were convicted. We have 718 of them still undergoing trial in different courts across the state.”

Danmallam added that the command also recovered N1.5 million cash.

He hailed the dedication his officers and men, which led to the recovery.

“The command had also enjoyed a robust relationship with sister security agencies and the people, especially Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who keeps supporting the police in its efforts to fight crime,” he added.
