Two herdsmen, Abubarkar Mohammed and Mohammed Isha, were brought before an Ilorin Magistrate Court on Wednesday, on the accusation of robbing people on the Ilorin-Ogbomosho Expressway.
The court ordered that the suspects be remanded in Police custody.
They allegedly committed the offence on the highway on August 28
Inspector Abdullahi Sanni, the Police Prosecutor, told the court that the suspects were arrested based on information from residents of Olorunsogo community along the highway.
According to Sanni, investigations revealed that the duo were armed bandits who had been terrorising people on the Ilorin-Ogbomosho road. He said their arrest led to the recovery of three motorcycles, five Nokia phones, one I-phone, one Sony camera, one HP laptop and jewelry.
According to NAN, they were arraigned on a two-count charge of Criminal Conspiracy and Armed Robbery, as the prosecutor noted that the offences contravened Sections 6(B) and 1(2) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap. R11 Law of Nigeria, 2004.
However, Mohammed and Isha pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
Aminat Shittu, the Magistrate, ordered that the suspects should be remanded at Mondala Prison Yard in Ilorin and adjourned the case until September 27 for mention.
