The convoy of the Kogi State Governor was involved in an accident on Monday.

According to a witness who spoke to SaharaReporters, the accident was a result of overspeeding.

Yahaya Bello, Governor of Kogi State, was earlier spotted on the Lokoja-Abuja highway, on his way to a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja, where his convoy ran into a gridlock, following a protest by truck drivers.

However, minutes after the Governor helped to diffuse the traffic jam, his convoy was involved in an accident.

Narrating the incident to SaharaReporters, the witness, who preferred not to be named, said: “On my way, I just saw their vehicle drive past me on very high speed. The way they sped past me nearly threw my car off the highway; that was after general market. However, not up to five minutes afterwards, I saw two of their cars in a big gutter beside the highway.

“I stopped to inquire what happened and I learnt a motorcycle crossed them, but because of the high speed, they couldn’t control the car and that resulted in the accident. So, what I saw was that two guys — one on the bike and the other in a white bus — were left unattended to. Meanwhile, the rescue team focused on those in the entourage of the convoy and attended to them immediately, but left those two others unattended to.

“Another thing I saw was that there were three guys that were trying to capture the incident and some men in black gave them the beating of their lives. I was able to capture the incident because I used the background camera on my phone.

“Another guy that came to plead with the rescue team to use their ambulance to assist the two guys was also beaten mercilessly. From what I saw, they were seriously wounded. However, no one died.”
