Ondo APC Factions At War As One Says The Other Is A 'Ruthless Political Cult-Like Group'

September 18, 2018

The Ade Adetimehin-led faction of the party in the state said that the Otetubi group had begun to constitute itself to a "most ruthless political cult group" in the APC.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ondo State has asked asked the security agencies in the state to call the faction of the party being led by Idowu Otetubi to order before it sets the state on the path of political violence.

The Ade Adetimehin-led faction of the party in the state said that the Otetubi group had begun to constitute itself to a "most ruthless political cult group" in the APC.

It said that the actions of the Otetubi-led faction had constituted a threat to public order and democracy in the state.

APC stated this in a statement issued by Steve Otaloro, its Director of Media and Publicity in the state.

The party, which decried the activity of the factional group as worrisome, accused Mr Otetubi of being an "interloper".

"Let it be noted that one Idowu Otetubi is the leader of a group going round disrupting the public peace and laying claim to the chairmanship position of our great party, the APC, in the state.

"For the records, this Otetubi is an interloper as he’s not known to our party. His name is not in any of our party register, not even in Ward 7 in the Akure South Local Government Area, where he claimed to belong.

Rotimi Ayeni, the APC Ward 7 Chairman in Akure South LGA, said Otetubi was being used by a political figure in the state for his selfish purposes.

"Idowu Otetubi, notoriously known to be crisscrossing from one political party to another, is still a registered member of the PDP.

"The Otetubi Group has constituted itself into a most ruthless political cult-like group endangering our peaceful coexistence. They are the number one enemy of our democratic process in the state.

"As a peace-loving political party with overwhelming support of the people behind us,  we are not perturbed by their ranting, but our concern is focused on the disruption of public peace, and the aftermath of such actions.

"We are hereby calling on the police and other security bodies in the state to be wary of the activities of this group and urgently restrain the leader of the group from further prank, as a result of carrying out his subversive political activities."

However, it explained how Otetubi's group had in May 2018 gone ahead and held a parallel congress in the state, causing chaos and violence to give the APC a bad image.

According to the party, same antics is being deployed by the faction to cause crisis in APC as preparations for the local government & general elections gathers momentum.

The Adetimehin's led APC, however, wondered how the Otetubi factional group which had allegedly remained "inactive" after the congress would wake up and parades the names of candidates for the council election.

"This time around, we will not allow such things to happen again and we are going to do everything humanly possible to protect our good name, unlike when we were held responsible for their violent actions that disrupted public peace, whereas, we knew nothing about it.

"We are going to do everything possible to defend our party’s name in the face of abuse and threat to any of our members or in case of breach of public peace.

"We are calling on the Police, the DSS and other security agencies to ensure that this violent prone political group’s activities led by said Idowu Otetubi is checked once and for all, especially, as the December 1 2018 election is fast approaching" the statement read.

Sahara Reporters could not get the immediate reaction of the Otetubi faction, as calls made to the lines were not connecting as at press time.

But Otetubi had repeatedly claimed to journalists that his group remains the "authentic excos" of the party in the state.
