A Court in Pretoria, South Africa, has sent 32-year-old Obioma Benjamin Abba and 38-year-old Chinedu Justine Obasi, to 12 and 18 years' imprisonment, respectively.

The two men, who ran a brothel in Arcadia, Pretoria, were jailed for running a prostitution ring.

The men kept the women captive in the flat in Arcadia, from where they had to work as prostitutes.

According to IOL, an independent online newspaper in South Africa, the presiding judge said the offence attracts mandatory life sentence, "if there were no mitigating factors”.

However, the men got light sentencing because they were first time offenders and had spent more than two years in jail, awaiting trial.

Similarly, the judge explained that although two women who worked as prostitutes for the men were exposed to a lot of trauma, they were already in the sex trade and hooked on drugs when they were recruited.
