Concerned Nigerians, a civil society group, has asked the Federal Government to intervene in the rift between Guarantee Trust Bank and Innosson Motors.
Making this call on behalf of the group in Lagos on Tuesday, Liborous Oshoma, a legal practitioner and member of the civil society group, said that the dispute was de-marketing the Nigerian brands.
“Government should find a way of stepping in, because the more you keep hearing negative news from both brands, the more you are de-marketing the Nigerian,” he said.
Pushing for an out of court settlement, Oshoma said that the interference by the government would help proffer speedy resolution.
“Government should find a way of coming in. There are issues you can resolve by sitting down for one hour that you cannot resolve in court for three years.
“It is not whether GTB is ready to explore settlement or whether Innoson also is ready to explore settlement. It is what the government wants to achieve,” he said.
Also speaking at the press conference was Barrister Monday Ubani, who clamoured for a review in the bail granting procedure.
According to Ubani, “Our judicial system is in such a manner that if you are charged with a criminal offence, you don’t get bail on the same day,; you cannot come today and fulfil all the conditions.
“We must come to the level that if an accused person is brought before the court, since he is still presumed to be innocent, they must do something that is possible for him to get his bail, and then come back for his trial. You don’t go and put him in prison when you have not convicted him."
