A group, the Progressive Citizens of Nigeria (PCN), has described as "derogatory" and "deliberate show of disrespect", the accusation of complicity levelled against President Muhammad Buhari by the Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson, on recent violent incidents in some parts of the state.

The group warned Dickson to stop insulting the office and person of the President whenever he is under pressure from critics and opposition parties in the state over his “noticeable failure to manage resources and maintain security of lives and property in the state”.

In a statement issued on Friday by its President, Comrade Osarojor Baridi and Secetary, Abdullahi Gamji, the group said a study had shown that the Bayelsa Governor has the penchant for insulting politicians.

They cited former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, as some of those who have been at the receiving end of Dickson’s negative comments.

The statement read: "While we are not concerned if he insults his party members at will, we will not condone his style of politics of insult against President Muhammad Buhari to cover his failure.

“Facts have shown that Governor Seriake Dickson, during the last 2016 governorship election in Bayelsa State, launched a barrage of insults on the President and his office simply because he came under pressure. He was on the radio committing acts of treason with direct claim against the President and the office of the Commander-in-Chief, just because voters wanted him out of office.

"Instead of facing issues of criticism from opposition parties with points and facts, Gov. Dickson prefers to throw insults at President Buhari. If former Governor Sylva comments on issue of Bayelsa governance, Governor Dickson throws insults at the President. If there is a clash among youth of Brass, Governor Dickson directs his frustration at President Buhari. At the last count, Governor Dickson has insulted President Buhari hundreds of times.

"After insulting the President and his office, Governor Dickson will visit the same office advocating for issues of national importance. Can you imagine that a President he accused of complicity in the insecurity in Bayelsa is the same man you had wanted to commission a cargo airport? We call on Governor Dickson to face issues rather than engaging in name calling, insults, and blackmail.

"We have been told many [times] that Governor Dickson displays a penchant for abusing eminent leaders of the Ijaw nation and Nigeria, both in public and private, which has become his trademark of politics of blackmail and character assassination. We warn him to stop and engage in productive discourse. What he does not take from powerless Bayelsans he arrests, intimidates, attacks or jails for speaking out against him, he is venting his frustration on the president and office of the president. "

Dickson had accused President Muhammadu Buhari of allowing a former Governor of the state, Timipre Sylva, and the Minister of State for Agriculture, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, of undermining the security of his state.

He had also expressed shock about the President's failure to take any action against the All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and their cohorts, whom he accused of causing mayhem in the state, despite making several reports and complaints to him and the security agencies.
