BREAKING: Atiku Steps Up PDP’s Charm Offensive, Visits Omisore In Osogbo

Details of the meeting are not yet public, but a source who was privy to it told SaharaReporters: “Atiku had first of all spoken to him on the phone yesterday, but the former Vice President travelled to Osogbo this afternoon to physically meeting with him.

Atiku Abubakar, presidential aspirant and former Vice President, is the latest Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) bigwig to visit Iyiola Omisore, candidate of the Social Democratic Party (PDP), in furtherance of the opposition’s party charm offensive towards convincing their formal ally to work for them.

Until May, Omisore was in the PDP, but he left after it was clear the party’s power brokers had settled to hand the governorship ticket to Ademola Adeleke, brother of the late Isiaka Adele, who had himself defected to the PDP after the All Progressives Congress (APC) failed to hand him the ticket for the senatorial bye-election to replace his brother, who had died in April 2017.

Since the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Saturday’s election inconclusive and fixed a rerun for Thursday, PDP leaders — notably Bukola Saraki, the Senate President, and Abiodun Olujimi, the Senator representing Ekiti South at the National Assembly — have been visiting Omisore in Osun State in a bid to convince him to pass on his supporters to PDP, a scenario that would likely bring Omisore’s former party, and Adeleke his political adversary, to power.

Details of the meeting are not yet public, but a source who was privy to it told SaharaReporters: “Atiku had first of all spoken to him on the phone yesterday, but the former Vice President travelled to Osogbo this afternoon to physically meeting with him.

“I won’t tell you specifically what went down at the meeting but I can generally tell you that it was all about convincing Omisore to work for the APC ahead of the rerun. Some offers have been made but we’d see how it goes.”
