BREAKING: INEC Officials Sentenced To Seven Years In Jail For Receiving Bribes From Diezani

The officials, Christian Nwosu, a former INEC Administrative Secretary in Kwara State, and Tijani Bashir, another former INEC official, were found guilty of the offences.

Two officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have been sentenced to seven years in prison for receiving bribes to compromise the 2015 elections.

They were convicted of benefiting from a sum of $115.01m that Diezani Alison-Madueke, former Minister of Petroleum Resources, paid to several people towards compromising the 2015 general election.

The officials, Christian Nwosu, a former INEC Administrative Secretary in Kwara State, and Tijani Bashir, another former INEC official, were found guilty of the offences.

Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court, Lagos had convicted Nwosu on Thursday, following accusations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that that he collected N30million from the former Minister.[story_link align="left"]66481[/story_link]

The offences bordered on money laundering to the tune on N264million.

They were sentenced on Friday by Justice Mohammed Idris.
