The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stressed that it's a position not to field candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Rivers State has not changed.

An Appeal Court had ruled a stay of execution on an earlier judgment by a Federal High Court, barring INEC from listing APC candidates in the elections in Rivers.

However, Festus Okoye, the INEC National Commissioner in charge of Voter Education and Publicity, who spoke to journalists on Wednesday, said the commission had taken its position and nothing has changed.

"We have taken a decision relating to the issue of Rivers and if anything changes before we take our final decision, the commission will meet and also take a decision; but we have not taken any other decision and we have not repealed our position on the issue of Rivers," he said.

In his remarks on the burnt Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Abia State, he said he expected Nigerians to express more concern.

He, however, said the commission would not be intimidated by the “heartless act’’, but would focus on doing the right thing.
