Nigerian Govt, ASUU To Meet Over Strike Today

At the end of a meeting with members of the union, ASUU had agreed to reexamine the position of the government to its demands.

The Nigerian government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) are expected to hold another round of meeting on Thursday in a bid to resolve the ongoing strike in public universities.

Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, the ASUU President, made this known after the last meeting of the union, with the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

At the end of a meeting with members of the union, ASUU had agreed to reexamine the position of the government to its demands.

Also confirming Thursday’s meeting, Iliya Rhoda, the acting Director of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, said Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour, would preside over the meeting

The statement read: "Furtherance to the efforts at resolving the ongoing industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, is scheduled to hold a conciliatory meeting with the executive of ASUU.”
