Mohammed Adamu, the acting Inspector General of Police, says policemen caught escorting dignitaries on election day would be prosecuted.

He also promised to monitor the ad hoc staff, especially the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members.

He said this on Tuesday while speaking at a public presentation of a partnership between stakeholders in the election.

“No Police officer is allowed to move around with any VIP on election day. Anyone who does so in uniform or mufti will be arrested," he said

Stating that everyone has the civic responsibility to partake in peaceful and credible elections, he noted that the election materials, electoral officials, domestic and foreign observers must be protected.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission has rolled out the ways stakeholders should conduct themselves. On our part, we assure the nation that all electoral materials will be secured and the electorate will be allowed to cast their votes without monetization," he added.

The acting IGP further disclosed that the Police would wear tags to ensure that there are no fake officers.
