INEC To Make A Decision On Rivers Election 'Soon'

“The Rivers State fact-finding committee is back and will submit its report to the Commission, which will study it and decide on the next line of action" he said.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) fact-finding committee set up to investigate the circumstances surrounding the Rivers State governorship and state House of Assembly elections "is back and will submit its report soon".

Responding to inquires by journalists on Friday, Rotimi Oyekanmi, who is the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC chairman, said that the result of the investigation will determine the next decision by INEC on the state.

“The Rivers State fact-finding committee is back and will submit its report to the Commission, which will study it and decide on the next line of action," he said.

On the date of the announcement, Oyekanmi said: “You will hear from us when the Commission takes a decision."

INEC had halted the governorship and state assembly elections in Rivers State till further notice, following the "widespread violence and threat aganst the lives of voters and ad-hoc staff of INEC".
