*Judges, military officers, journalists, others conspired to truncate June 12 mandate
Omoyele Sowore has described the annulment of June 12, 1993, won by Chief MKO Abiola as one of the biggest gang-up in the history of true democracy.
Sowore, a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress said Nigerians voted massively for MKO Abiola but lamented that the vote of the people was not made to count.
Sowore, who was a leading participant at the struggle against the military junta to recognize MKO Abiola as the winner of the elections, also stated that all stakeholders in the country, army generals, traditional rulers, journalists, connived to steal the mantle from Abiola.
In a post on his social media page, Sowore said, “On June 12, 1993, Nigerians in large numbers voted en masse in a free and fair election, however, a handful of powerful Nigerians brazenly rejected the idea.
“They had their way and Nigeria hasn’t been the same since then.
“This monumental conspiracy included army generals, traditional rulers, judges, priests, journalists, academicians, entertainers, businesspeople, some students, diplomats, labor leaders, ethnicists, international corporations, elder statesmen...it was the biggest gang-up against a people aspiring for true democracy.”
