Four people have been killed, houses and vehicles razed in yesterday night's violent attacks carried out on communities on the outskirt of Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, SaharaReporters can confirm.

Isiyaka Mallam, an eyewitness told SaharaReporters, "Four young people were killed around Kasuwan Bera ATC. I saw their corpses myself. I think they were among youths who mounted barricades to prevent unwelcome visitors into their neighborhood."

"There's a strong possibility that they might have attempted to resist the military who were deployed to calm frayed nerves, leading to the violent confrontation and killing of the four."

The Nigeria Police confirmed the invasion of the communities but denied any fatalities.

The police only admitted that houses and vehicles were burnt in the attack that lasted several hours.

David Misal, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Taraba State command, in a press release made available to SaharaReporters stated that heavily armed bandits in their droves on motorcycles stormed some communities and set them ablaze.

"At about 1800hours, heavily armed bandits on motorcycles invaded Tudiri village via Jauro Yinu ward, Ardo-Kola local government area, a predominantly Fulani and Mumuye settlement and set some houses (huts) ablaze.

"The command immediately mobilized patrol teams to the area, but before their arrival the hoodlums have fled into the bush.

"It is unfortunate that (irate) Kona youths apprehensive of the development blocked Nukkai, Kasuwan Bera ATC highway Jalingo and set disused tyres on fire, attacking innocent people for no reason whatsoever. Consequently, they burnt three vehicles, three tricycles (Keke Napep) and two motorcycles," Misal said.

Calm is said to have returned to the affected communities.

However, Misal added, "The situation is being closely monitored by the security agencies in a bid to forestall any further breakdown of law and order."
