Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of Ibadan zonal office, have arrested 15 persons participating in Internet scam popularly called ‘yahoo yahoo’ during a raid on Tuesday.

The EFCC in the operation botched an attempt by one Fisayo Falade, one of the suspected internet fraudsters, to flush his phone through a water closet in order to deny access to potentially incriminating data about him.

The 20-year-old suspect, Falade, was among the 15 arrested in Ibadan.

According to the anti-graft agency, 10 of the suspects were arrested at Akatanpa Powerline, while five were arrested at Kushenla area of the Oyo State capital.

The commission explained further: “The suspects hide behind fake names and identities to perpetrate fraud, dispossessing their unsuspecting victims of their hard-earned money.

“Their alleged involvement in internet-related frauds were reported to the Commission by members of their neighbourhood who noticed their expensive ways of life even though they are supposedly undergraduates, and without any known source of income."

The EFCC claimed it recovered two exotic cars, laptops, mobile phones and several documents containing false pretences from the suspects.

“The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the anti-graft agency stated.
