More Details About Sowore's Arrest

Early on Saturday morning, human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, was arrested by men of the Department of State Services who invaded his apartment.

Since then, information about his whereabouts has been sketchy.

Timeline of Arrest

We know that the forceful arrest of Sowore took place between 1:15 am and 1:25 am (WAT) on Saturday.

According to his associate, the knocks on his apartment door woke them up and alerted them to the presence of "heavily armed" DSS men.[story_link align="left"]72244[/story_link]

The men numbering eight cordoned off the building and arrested the rights activist after a slight altercation in the gym. 

He was then driven towards CMD Road Shangisha, Ketu in Lagos which was his last known location.

He has since been kept incommunicado. 

Official Response

So far, there has been no official response from the DSS despite numerous calls by SaharaReporters.[story_link align="left"]72258[/story_link]

The Nigerian Police Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, told journalists he is not aware of the matter. 

The Nigerian presidency has also kept mum despite widespread anger and agitation on social media over the matter.

Some Nigerians such as Oby Ezekwesili, Deji Adeyanju, Shehu Sani, Kadaria Ahmed and Atiku Abubakar have taken to social media to express their disappointment and anger with the Nigerian government.
