Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, an umbrella body for Fulani herders in the country, has apologised to Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue for attacks and killings by herdsmen in the state.
National Secretary of the association, Saleh Alhassan, tendered the apology at an event in Makurdi, the state capital, on Saturday.
He said Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore regretted the killings in Benue and pledged to ensure peaceful coexistence between herders and farmers in the state.
Alhassan described Governor Ortom as a peace-loving man and promised that association would embrace the peace initiatives put forward henceforth.
Reacting to the group’s apology, Ortom said that his administration was committed to ending the killing of innocent people and encourage ranching as the global best practice of animal husbandry in the state.
