Ondo Lawmakers Commence Impeachment Process Against Deputy Governor, Ajayi

The lawmakers, who resumed from a one month recess on Tuesday, immediately embarked on the process to remove Ajayi from office after he defected to the Peoples Democratic Party from the All Progressives Congress in June.

Members of the Ondo State House of Assembly are currently going ahead with impeachment process against the deputy governor of the state, Agboola Ajayi.

The lawmakers, who resumed from a one month recess on Tuesday, immediately embarked on the process to remove Ajayi from office after he defected to the Peoples Democratic Party from the All Progressives Congress in June.

Nine lawmakers loyal to Ajayi withdrew from participating in the impeachment process.

The House of Assembly complex in Akure, the state capital, is currently surrounded by armed security personnel.

Ajayi had earlier dragged the Assembly to court over the planned impeachment believed to be instigated by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
