Rivers Explosion Injured Two Persons –Police

SP Nnamdi Omoni, state Police Public Relations Officer, who confirmed the incident said no life was lost.

An explosion from a locally fabricated dynamite has injured a boy and lady at Mile 3 market in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Rivers State, according to the state police command.

The incident, which was accompanied by a deafening sound, occurred around 6:30 am on Monday.

It reportedly sent people in the vicinity running helter-skelter.

SP Nnamdi Omoni, state Police Public Relations Officer, who confirmed the incident said no life was lost.

A statement released by the state police command said: “ A locally fabricated dynamite exploded when one Mrs Ifemia Aloke, popularly known as ‘Mama Joy' opened her fish shop, inflicting injuries on her son and one other young lady who are currently receiving medical attention. No life was lost in the incident.

“The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) was immediately dispatched to the scene to sweep and render the entire market safe. Normal trading activities resumed immediately.”

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Eboka Friday has ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident to ascertain the cause of the explosion and bring the perpetrators to justice.
